Whether immersing in musings by Chinese philosophers, collaging torn photos of friends' faces, or reclusion for meditative Qi Gong, there is hardly anything usual about David Rylands. Even more unique is the music that this creative Brisbane artist writes, records and produces. Having been no stranger to a life in which music takes a central role, from graduating at the Conservatorium, working in studios overseas, and playing in a variety of acts, Rylands has resettled in Brisbane (for now) and established his own studio. While he has been prolific in writing over the years, the recent experience readjusting to life and entering parenthood has fueled the content for a selection of tracks which formed his first vinyl release entitled "Back to the Start". Underpinned by a mantra to not take yourself too seriously, the tracks are beautiful and humble, while at the same time push the sensibility of composition. Since then, he has continued to explore the experimental boundaries, incorporating his fascination with the dichotomy between electro-acoustics and soundscapes.
