There's a spider who lives in my guitar
It tends to bite when I play too hard
So I'm careful not to boast
Keep it quiet with simple notes
There's a spider who lives in my guitar
Constructed a web of husky fur
So it's warm, that's for sure
That the nights I don't play can be endured
And the softest spark of fire
There's a spider who lives in my guitar
Seems right at home well here in the dark
And when it's lonely recalls every part
Of every story that's from my heart
And the softest flash of eyes
And the memories on the rise
Still the softest spark of fire

From the sophomore album, “The Big Surreal”.
Hippocamping is the latest release from the indie dream folk duo from Brisbane, and is the first single from the sophomore album which will be called "The Big Surreal", which is due for release in 2021. What started as a track vision for a blissed out, Californian coastline, afternoon drive vibe, quickly began to push boundaries with the addition of more electronic elements, slightly departing from the pastural folk from the debut release, but still remaining deeply rooted in dreamfolk with heavy focus on vocal harmony and melody.
Thematically, it is a nostalgic illustration of spending time with memories, led through a narrative of a dinner date with a seahorse, and wondering whether another invite will ever come. Hippocamping is certainly a step in a progressed direction for the pair, while maintaining the base instrumentation of where it all began.

The second single from the upcoming sophomore album, "The Big Surreal", "Don't Forget" is a masterfully crafted indie track with familiar pop writing sensibilities pushed further into exploration with subtle electronica and synth. The staple instrumentation of keys and guitar underpin the track while their signature dual vocal harmonies lead the progression through a candid reflection on the music industry. It is both a commentary on the pitfalls personally experienced in the industry, while also an acknowledgment of how priorities can change when the pressure is eased from having to always be 'on cycle'. It is honest and beautiful, musically and lyrically.
Recorded by David Rylands and mastered by William Bowden
Spring Skier are duo Remy Boccalatte and Kane Mazlin, who manage to create something with a massive orchestral sweep as wide and as immersive as the cloudless Queensland skies. While touched with a bittersweet taste, the second single, ‘Don’t Forget' is euphoric and uplifting, achingly beautiful.
The accompanying video reflects the sense of poignancy: shots of puppetry shows imbued with pathos and nostalgia. It is a strange phenomena that marionettes seems to be palimpsests for our emotions: we imprint on their wooden features our own stories and emotions while they are manipulated at the hands of unseen forces:
This is impossibly beautiful music – baroque and pastoral.
‘Hippocamping’ is the first single from Spring Skier. A project propelled by the energies of Remy Boccalatte and Kane Mazlin, it glazes our negative passions and drives them to the corners where we can’t interact with them any longer.
The beautifully sound-scaped single of ‘Hippocamping’ is a freshly cut bush of flowers and greens. Longing in the sentimentality of a past of your own, you glide with your thoughts and memories, inclined to smile and gleefully embrace the warmth that once was.
The Brisbane dreamfolk duo said of the single: “‘Hippocamping’ is a reference to spending time with memories, illustrated through a fictional dinner encounter with a seahorse, and wondering if another invite will ever come.”
Remy and Kane delight in working and moulding vestiges of emotional invitations. A cart full of bespoke resonance, reveal a parting shot of kisses and hug, for the longing hearts asunder.
A prelude to a dream desire, the duo sanctions negativity in ‘Hippocamping’, just enough for us to just sail away for a little while.
